If you have ever undertaken a risky trip or adventure, like the twins' parachuting into the Congo in Cryptid Hunters, what was your adventure? And, would you attempt it again? If not, why not?In my case, it was paddling in a six man outrigger team in an open ocean race from Molokai to Oahu at age 18. The conditions were horrible with 25 foot seas and gale force winds. We wiped out coming down a big swell about half-way across the channel and had to be rescued. These days I enjoy putting around in various kayaks and our old sailboat but in conditions that are a bit more manageable. I prefer the vicarious thrill of reading about someone else's high risk sailing and boating adventures....

I have never done anything like parachuting out of an airplane, but I love to go cliff jumping. My highest cliff is about 60 feet and it was intense, I usually just go off the 30 footer a lot, but when I feel daring I climb up the 60 and just go for it... I also went on the Big Shot this weekend on top of the Stratosphere... 4G's, wow!
I must say that my vacations have been quite mundane, some camping has proven to be thrilling due to mother nature, but nothing truly scary. I am excited for a deep sea fishing experience that will be occurring this summer, and am hoping for a boring if not utterly uneventful time (from a safety stand point).
I believe thrill seeking is a very natural desire of almost anyone, but life threatening trips/adventures are for a select few. Having the slightest chance of dying does not encourage me to participate. Being a gambler I would say that I will leave the chances for extreme bad luck to occur only in the safety of a casino. At least then all that will happen is I will lose money.
I am not the adventurous type but sometimes I get up the courage to do something exciting. I remember snorkeling in Maui a few years ago. (I can barely swim). A boat took us out to sea and I had to use a board to keep me afloat. I was still able to put my head underwater and see all the beautiful scenery. I even saw a sea turtle and heard whales. Last year, I tried kayaking for the first time in the Philippines. I almost floated out to the China Sea because I did not even know how to steer the kayak. I eventually figured it out with my cousin's help and we got back to the beach!
I have never been on what I would consider to be a risky vacation or adventure. I would like to go sky diving. The college where I did my undergraduate studies has sky divers that jump into the stadium before football games. I think this would be a great adventure. I also like to drive fast cars. I have 1968 Camaro that I am going to have restored in hopes of taking it to the drag strip in the future.
Whew--cliff jumping! I don't even like to go up cliffs...do you land in water? I hope so, anyway...this vacation we've done a lot of snorkeling on the Big Island and a fairly hair-raising zodiac boat ride on the "Black Pearl" (figures....). Deep sea fishing, driving a fast, classic muscle car...pretty cool stuff.
I enjoy restoring some of my old longboards and keeping our old boat in reasonable shape (a goal, not the reality)....
During the break I've been reading Deep Storm (apocalyptic novel) and our YA novel, plus some techie mags...
More later. Have a great spring break and I'll see you Monday.
I once went skydiving in Boulder City and I have to say when I was getting ready to jump I was really scared. But once I was free- falling through the sky I loved every minute! I would definitely do it again. I think that I might choose a different location to take a sky view of the gound from instead of just the desert though :)
yeah, I land in the water... sometimes it hurts when I land wrong but not enough to deter me :)
