Local Knowledge

As the twins venture further into the jungle, ultimately settling down for a bit in the Skyhouse, they are without their Gizmo computer connection. To what extent does "local knowledge" of a place outweigh the wonders of technology (e.g. GPS's), in your view?

Unforgettable Adventures

If you have ever undertaken a risky trip or adventure, like the twins' parachuting into the Congo in Cryptid Hunters, what was your adventure? And, would you attempt it again? If not, why not?

In my case, it was paddling in a six man outrigger team in an open ocean race from Molokai to Oahu at age 18. The conditions were horrible with 25 foot seas and gale force winds. We wiped out coming down a big swell about half-way across the channel and had to be rescued. These days I enjoy putting around in various kayaks and our old sailboat but in conditions that are a bit more manageable. I prefer the vicarious thrill of reading about someone else's high risk sailing and boating adventures....

They use technology a lot with the Gizmo. They can track everyone in their group and keep in touch with each other. With the cameras, they can view areas to see any danger ahead, etc. It helps the twins when they get to the Congo. We'll see how this will work against them later in the novel.
